Colectiva Manos presented our second annual Día de los Muertos Community Altar from November 1–3, 2024.
Our altar was supported by a Platforms Fund Culture Bearer Implementation Grant and a Jazz & Heritage Foundation Louisiana Cultural Equity Arts Grant. Our altar was housed at Beanlandia.
Muchísimas gracias to everyone who visited our altarcito, to our loved ones for their support, and to our ancestors for their guidance.

There is no wrong way to engage with an altar.
Altars are a way of opening channels of communication with our ancestors, with our gods and spirit guides, and with past and future versions of ourselves.
Some of us offer dried and fresh food, objects and fabric with colors of importance, incense, images of loved ones we’ve lost, trinkets from our home that help conjure the energy we need. It only needs to make sense to you.
